Privacy Policy
Family Tracker ("we") runs this service. This policy explains what the Family Tracker app and this website collect, why, who can see it, and how to make it stop. The rules for using the service are in the Terms of Service.
1. The one rule everything else follows
Your location is shared only with people you have accepted, and only while you keep sharing on. Nobody can see you because they know your phone number: an invitation has to be accepted by you, on your phone, first. Everyone in a circle can see the full list of people who can see them — there is no mode that removes someone from that list.
2. What we collect
- Account data: your phone number or email address, a display name, an optional photo, and the language and platform of your device.
- Location data: your device's position, accuracy, speed and heading, at the interval the app is allowed to report.
- Device data: battery level, operating system version, app version, and a push-notification token.
- Circle data: the circles you belong to, the places you save, check-ins, and SOS alerts you send or receive.
- Contacts: only the numbers you choose to invite. We do not upload your address book.
- Website analytics: this website uses Google Analytics with advertising features switched off. No advertising identifiers are collected, and no advertising cookies are set.
3. Why we use it
We do not sell personal data. We do not share location data with data brokers, and we do not use it for advertising — ours or anyone else's.
- To show your position to the people in your circles, and theirs to you.
- To send arrival, low-battery, check-in and SOS notifications to the people you share with.
- To keep the account secure, prevent abuse, and fix crashes.
- To bill paid plans through the app store or payment provider shown in the app. We never see full card numbers.
4. Who can see it
- People in your circles see your position, the place name or distance we can derive from it, the time of your last update, your battery level, the places you share with the circle, your check-ins and your SOS alerts.
- Service providers that host our servers, deliver invitations and push notifications, draw the map and process payments. They act on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes.
- Authorities, only when the law requires it and after we have checked the request.
5. Children
Circles often include children. You must be at least 16 to create your own account. A younger family member is added by a parent or guardian, who sets up the phone and gives consent in the app. A child's account follows the same rule as any other: the phone shows who can see them, and sharing can be paused from that phone.
6. How long we keep it
- Live position: replaced by the next update; the last known position is kept while you are in a circle.
- Location history: 30 days, then deleted automatically by a scheduled job — not on request, and not only when someone asks.
- Account data: until you delete the account, then removed within 30 days, except records we must keep for tax or legal reasons.
7. Your choices and rights
- Pause or stop sharing at any time in the app. The rest of the circle sees that you have paused rather than an old position.
- Leave a circle at any time, without asking anyone.
- Access, correct, export or delete your data: Delete your account explains the in-app path. For anything else write to [email protected].
- If you live in the EU or EEA, the UK, or another region with a data-protection authority, you may also complain to that authority.
8. Security and transfers
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Our servers are located in the European Union and the United States; when data moves across borders we rely on standard contractual clauses.
9. Changes
When this policy changes in a way that matters, we tell you in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top is always the current version.
